CERITHIUM CAERULEUM - SAND NEEDLE SNAIL
The sand needle snail (Cerithium caeruleum) spends most of its day in the substrate , which it also frees of cyanobacteria by chewing. At night it becomes active and scrapes algae deposits from stones and panes. It also eats detritus. The sand needle snail thus plays an important role in the cleaning function in the pool.
The needle snail should be kept in aquariums of 100 liters or more that have a sufficiently fine substrate. Around ten snails should be used per 100 liters to achieve the desired cleaning effect.
